Catching up
The kiddo and family have been here the past few days, and we've had a wonderful time, though I haven't gone near my computer. The baby kiddo is three and a half weeks old, and is a champion sleeper. About the only time I saw his pretty baby blues open was when he cried because I was too slow about changing the diaper or getting the bottle in his mouth. He has the sweetest smile, and the ability to turn his great-grandma into a googling softie.

Robert, the kiddo and I went to Tulsa's Veteran's Day parade yesterday morning. The weather couldn't have been better. We're running about 20 degrees above normal for this time of year, according to the weather guys, and it was great. The Patriot Guard and Rolling Thunder were represented (the bikers who help drown out those freakin' protestors from Kansas who show up to celebrate at the funerals of dead servicemen/women), and there were lots of former POWs, Vietnam and Korean War vets, including some of the Chosin Few (also called the Chosin Frozen). The JROTCs from all the local schools took part, and the middle-school leadership programs. (Yo, neighbor George, where were you when your Army JROTC group marched by???)

The cars were great -- the kiddo and I each picked out several we'd like to take home; my favorite was a '50-something Caprice (I think) -- big, convertible, gleaming. I would look just too incredibly cool driving that baby down the highway.

There were high school bands, too -- and I have to say, Booker T. Washington and Tulsa Science & Technology (I think) were having too much fun. Honestly, high school marching bands tend to be a little stiff, but these two groups were making the most of it. Great moves, and the music was good, too.

After the parade, we had lunch at Lot-a-Burger. Great greasy burgers eaten in the back of the kiddo's pickup (which he still hasn't let me drive -- pout) on a beautiful day . . . what more could anyone want?

Last night, while DIL visited with her family, the three of us and the baby kiddo went to Golden Corral for dinner. Every Veteran's Day, all their employees volunteer for the evening and they put on a free feed for all veterans. The pot roast with veggies was to die for, and everything else was pretty damn good. Of coure, the baby kiddo slept through it all, until I finished eating and rescued him from his carrier (meaning: woke him up from a sound sleep and took him out of his warm snuggly bed to be bounced about in a loud, brightly-lit room).

Nah, truthfully, he opened his eyes, frowned at me, then went right back to sleep.

They're on their way back home today . . . sigh. I offered to keep the baby, just until their next visit, but they didn't take me up on it. Imagine that.

If I get around to it, I'll post some pictures, but now it's time to work. Rachel10:00 AM
